Old Harbour United Football Club say they have acquired bottom-placed Jamaica Premier League side Spanish Town Police.

Old Harbour, which recently won the St Catherine FA Division 1 title, will relinquish that title as they will no longer participate in the St Catherine Major League, the club said in a release.

“The club will now participate exclusively as a football academy with renewed focus on youth development, player education and the nurturing of future talent for local and national football,” the club said.

“This strategic decision reflects the Old Harbour United family’s commitment to sustainable growth and strengthening of the football pipeline within the region,” it continued. “The newly structured academy will place emphasis on technical training, discipline and holistic player development, while supporting the competitive ambition of Spanish Town Police Football Club under its new ownership.”

Old Harbour expressed gratitude to the St Catherine Football Association, their players, coaching staff, supporters and community partners for their continued support throughout the years.

“We look forward to the exciting new era and to contributing meaningfully to the future of football through our academy programme,” said Old Harbour United.

Spanish Town Police FC, formed in 1977, gained its first-ever qualification to Jamaica’s top-flight football for the 2025/2026 season. However, they have struggled throughout, winning just twice from 14 games to be rooted at the bottom of the 14-team league on eight points.

Spanish Town Police are facing relegation as they sit four points behind Chapelton Maroons and fellow promoted team Treasure Beach FC on 12 points.

With the merger with Old Harbour United, Spanish Town Police, which had victories over Waterhouse FC and Treasure Beach FC, could make a push to avoid the dreaded relegation.
