Tevin Foster and lightweight claiming rider, Jaheim Anderson, dominated Caymanas Park yesterday, booting home favourites and outsiders alike, to seal three-timers on the 10-race card.
Riding as light as 107lb, Anderson made good use of his nine-pound weight allowance to make all aboard TenSang Chung’s JOYFUL SURPRISE at odds of 6–1 in the fourth event at nine furlongs and 25 yards, wiring fellow local-bred four-year-olds, non-winners of two races, and imported maiden GOOSE PIMPLES.
Reporting at 109lb astride Cashbert Khwalsingh’s GELROY in the seventh, Anderson timed his mount’s late run perfectly to overhaul LUCY ON THE GO, RADAM and TORONADO STEEL close home at five furlongs straight, beating fellow five-year-olds, non-winners of three races, at odds of 11-1.
Anderson followed up in the eighth with a composed victory aboard 6-5 favourite, SKILL AT ARMS, who tracked ABHAY at four furlongs straight, roused inside the final half-furlong to win by a length and a quarter among four-year-old maidens.
Foster, on winter break from Century Mile in Edmonton after winning 11 races at the Canadian track last season, teamed up with champion trainer Jason DaCosta to land the third and ninth events with favourites BIGGER BOSS and imported AMERICAN AVIATOR, respectively.
BIGGER BOSS, fourth behind WE JAMMIN in the Boxing Day Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes at a mile, chased Richard Azan’s MO PAI into the lane, led a furlong and a half out to beat stablemate LONDON SPIRIT closing from off the pace at seven furlongs.
A full brother to 2023 Gold Cup winner She’s My Destiny, BIGGER BOSS clocked 1:27.3 on a fast track which turned muddy at the eighth race with the arrival of afternoon rain.
AMERICAN AVIATOR made light work of fellow United States-bred THOUSAND TREASURES and local-bred four-year-olds, none-winners of three races, easily winning his second career race by seven and a quarter lengths, clocking 1:25.4 at seven furlongs.
Foster, who lost the 2024 jockeys’ title in the final race of the season to Raddesh Roman, 132-133, after starting the day three winners behind, closed the programme with a stirring ride aboard Fitznahum Williams’ 14-1 outsider, LAURIE, outbattling 4-1 chance SMOKING THOM with claiming rider Anthony Frazer by a half-length in a last-furlong duel.
Racing continues on Saturday. No Sunday meet is scheduled until February 8.
