Raddesh Roman, the reigning two-time champion jockey, has addressed speculation about his future, saying he’s open to overseas opportunities, but nothing is set in stone.

He mentioned of a jockeyship challenge at Aqueduct in New York, USA, possibly later this year, which could lead to more opportunities.

“On Mouttet Mile race day, they came to me and told me that they are going to have a jockeyship challenge as in like in one day in the week race day where the horses’ name will be raffled and whichever name you come up with, that will be the horse that you will be riding in the race,” Roman explained.

“You will earn points and whosoever earned the most points will win,” he added.

Roman emphasised that this is not a permanent arrangement, but rather an opportunity that could lead to more.

“It is not a permanent thing unless things worked out good and lead to different things but for now is the jockey’s challenge race they told me about. They told me that it is later in the year, they are going to do the paperwork and stuff,” Roman said.

Roman rode 133 winners to win the 2024 jockeys’ championship and rode 129 winners to win the 2025 jockeys’ title. He reflected on his dominant 2025 season, saying: “The 2025 championship was a much easier task as you could see it was free-flowing and I didn’t have any real competition. I just kept putting in the work and got the job done. From mid-season to the end, I was on fire,” he noted.

With confidence high, Roman declared: “I will definitely be here and will be looking for a third-consecutive championship. I will continue to put in the hard work and hoping for the best, keeping injure-free.”
