Assistant coach Alex Thomas remains confident that Waterhouse FC will soon begin converting their chances in the Jamaica Premier League into goals, despite the team’s slow start under new head coach, Argentina-born Javier Ainstein.
Waterhouse are yet to record a win since Ainstein took charge three matches ago, having drawn all three encounters and scored just one goal during that period. Their struggles in front of goal were again evident on Thursday against Harbour View, when they created several clear-cut chances but managed only a single successful strike.
The Drewsland-based outfit had to come from behind to salvage a 1-1 draw, courtesy of an 89th-minute equaliser from Colorado Murray at the Harbour View Mini-Stadium.
“We have drawn our last three games and so, while we are not getting the three points, we are getting a point and that is a plus,” said Thomas.
“We are creating numerous chances, we are not getting the ball into the back of the net, and so it is a work in progress because the team is building. I have been there for the last two games and we have gotten two points and that is a plus. We keep working hard every day and so I know that the three points will come,” he said.
Waterhouse, who have played 17 games this season, are 10th in the standings on 18 points.
Thomas added that they have seen improvements in the team since Ainstein took charge of the team and, therefore, with the additional personnel coming this month, it is only a matter of time before they start chalking up the victories this season.
“I have seen improvements every day in the team and in the way Javier Ainstein has stepped up the team. We are really playing well and so I know that the goals will come very soon because the end product is getting the ball into the back of the net and get three points,” he said.
“We have injuries in the team because Colorado Murray is our main striker and Javane Bryan is injured at the moment, and so we are short on strikers but we have players coming and hopefully they can add to the product. Liam Burrowes, a striker from Guyana, is here and he is training with us and he is looking good and hopefully he can bring what he has been doing in Guyana and continue scoring goals,” Thomas stated.
Waterhouse will play away to rivals Arnett Gardens in their next game on Monday at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex. Match time is 7:30 p.m.
