Valentine’s Day will be made extra special this year, as in addition to the chocolate, wine and roses, Jamaicans will be treated to the sweet sounds of veteran reggae artiste Sanchez, who is set to grace the stage at Love & Reggae: A Timeless Valentine’s Celebration.
The artiste will return to local soil to perform his well-known songs, such as Missing You and Fall in Love, which have endeared him to fans both local and international, who say he has been blessed with the voice of an angel. The Love & Reggae line-up will also feature Wayne Wonder and 2024 Digicel Rising Stars winner Akeem Fennell, who is slated to be the opening act. Fans are eagerly anticipating pure nostalgia coupled with great ambience.
The lawns of Devon House will be transformed into a lovers’ paradise for patrons, and the pairing of Sanchez and Wayne Wonder has become the talk of the town, as their catalogue of music is not only extensive, but also timeless. Sanchez, whose given name is Kevin Jackson, will be accompanied by the Chronic Band and, by all accounts, intends to create a complete experience, allowing patrons to reconnect and fall in love with good music – specifically reggae – all over again.
As Sanchez told THE WEEKEND STAR, this performance is a long time coming, and he is well prepared to give fans what they expect, plus a little more.
“They can expect the best from me. I am going to sing my heart out for all of my fans. I am looking forward to this performance as it is vital that we cultivate and nurture love. I want to let my fans know that love is always the answer. I promise to do my best on Valentine’s Day with Wayne Wonder, so the fans will see a part of us that they have never seen before,” he said.
A singer and music producer, Sanchez got his start in the late 1980s after honing his talent in the church. The stage name he earned was due to his prowess on the football field and similarity to a famous footballer. Sanchez has had many chart-toppers over the years, but his first hit was Lady in Red in 1987. Though fans have been missing him for many years, Sanchez has not been idle. He shared that he has been working on an album and has a new single, titled Jamdown, which was produced by Kenneth Thompson.
“I know I have been blessed. The highlight of my career is the Lord’s support, my family and most of all my fans, who I couldn’t have done it without,” he said.
