Fast-rising dancehall firebrand Khandy Brawling has set the streets and social media ablaze with her raunchy new single ‘ Guh To Work’, and fans can’t get enough of her unapologetic energy, sex appeal and raw confidence.
Released in mid-January, the bedroom anthem wasted no time causing a stir, quickly becoming one of the most talked-about songs in dancehall circles.
According to Khandy, the reaction has been nothing short of explosive. Wherever she goes, heads turn, crowds gather, and moving in peace is no longer an option.
“People deal with mi like mi a Queen Elizabeth, and the reaction is good,” she said. “Sometimes I can’t even walk in peace, but I enjoy the love that is being showed to me. The kids don’t pass me anywhere and it’s the same thing with the adults. The entire world a vibe with the song and it’s a good look,” she said.
Guh To Work came to life in true dancehall fashion–unplanned, unfiltered and straight from the gut. A late-night studio session sparked the idea, and within moments, the song was born. With her manager, Stephen Gabbidon, immediately feeling chills after hearing it back, Khandy knew they had a certified troublemaker on their hands.
But this bold new queen didn’t always see herself on stage. The Old Harbour, St Catherine native once dreamt of wearing a police uniform, not ruling dancehall playlists. That dream faded quickly once she realised her personality was too big to be boxed in. Now, she’s rewriting the rules–loudly, boldly and on her own terms.
In just months, Khandy’s TikTok following skyrocketed from barely 10,000 to nearly 200,000, fuelled by viral moments, fiery lives and a take-no-prisoners attitude. While controversy helped boost her visibility early on, the 25-year-old says she’s done feeding drama and is now focused on music, money and international tours.
“Sometimes on TikTok controversy sells, but mi realise say mi bigger than that, so I don’t have to do any of those things any more,” she said.
“We have a lot of shows coming up so right now mi just a gwane get mi beauty sleep now because me a live out a suitcase after this,” Khandy said.
Her mother is her No. 1 fan, but the when the Internet doesn’t always play nice, “she gets really mad”.
Khandy, though, remains unfazed. She is convinced that today’s haters will soon be screaming her lyrics word for word.
“Really and truly, the people who bash mi now gonna eventually become my fans in the long run,” she said. “At times mi cup get full but it is good not to answer because dem a guh love mi, plus if yuh nuh have haters, yuh nuh really hot,” Khandy said between laughter.
With tracks like Single, Going Down, and Last Stop, a collaboration with Intence, already in her catalogue, Khandy Brawling is proving she is more than just shock value.
