Dancehall superstar Popcaan is now being addressed as Nana Okofo Akro Kese after sharing scenes from what appeared to be his recognition as a chief in Ghana.

The Unruly Boss took to Instagram to post photos and videos from a traditional ceremony, where he was formally charged with leadership responsibilities. Captioning the post, Popcaan wrote, “Nana is Grateful!!! love and respect to my people. Together we Push #KESE.”

In one clip, a speaker is heard emphasising the significance of the moment.

“We don’t do this for the fun of it. We do this because we believe in you, that you can lead us,” the speaker declared.

“So, Nana Okofo Akro Kese, now you have a big responsibility to lead the youths, not only in Central Region, but in the whole of Ghana as a chief. There are no small seats for a stool. You make it bigger or smaller. So now you are a chief, duly recognized by our people, so it’s up to you to make it smaller or bigger. Congratulations, Nana.”

Photos shared show the dancehall artiste standing before a towering warrior statue and later wrapped in vibrant traditional kente cloth while seated indoors. Other clips captured drumming and cultural performances as members of the community gathered around him.

The ceremony appeared to take place in Ghana’s Central Region, and the message delivered made it clear that the title carries weight, particularly in guiding and inspiring young people.

Fans quickly flooded the comments section with congratulatory messages, saluting the entertainer for strengthening ties between Jamaica and Ghana.

With “Nana Okofo Akro Kese” now added to his name, Popcaan seems ready to embrace not just musical influence, but cultural leadership as well.
