Eric Dane, the actor beloved by fans as Dr Mark “McSteamy” Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy, has died at the age of 53 following a battle with ALS.

Dane also captivated a new generation of viewers with his role as Cal Jacobs on HBO’s hit series Euphoria, where he delivered a complex and widely talked about performance.

According to a statement released to TMZ by his family, Dane passed away Thursday afternoon. He later died Thursday evening at a Los Angeles hospital with his wife, his daughters Billie and Georgia, and close friends and relatives at his bedside.

“With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS,” the family said. “He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world.”

The family added that throughout his illness, Dane became a passionate advocate for ALS awareness and research, determined to help others facing the same fight.

“He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always. Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received. The family has asked for privacy as they navigate this impossible time.”

Fans around the world are now paying tribute to the actor whose charm, intensity, and screen presence made him one of television’s most memorable stars.
