Past students of the College of Agriculture, Science and Education (CASE) are being urged to remain connected and to become active members of the alumni groups to sustain and strengthen the institution.

President of the CASE Alumni Association, Everett Hyatt, made the call during the recent Founders’ Weekend event held at the college’s campus in Portland.

“Whether you do it here in Jamaica or you go to the North American affiliate to become a part of OFANA (Ole Farmers Association North America, Inc.), you still should make a commitment to contribute to your alma mater,” Mr. Hyatt said.

“This institution and management require the collective support of the alumni, partners, staff, and students,” he added.

For 2026, the Alumni Association donated just over $2 million in scholarships to students. Another $2.4 million was contributed by OFANA.

Mr. Hyatt said that at least 30 solar lights will be donated to improve safety on the institution’s campus.

OFANA President, Norma Jarrett, her address to the student body, encouraged them to form bonds and make the most of their CASE experience.

“Be a sponge and absorb all the knowledge and practical competencies and experiences possible. Develop honest friendships on campus. The bonds you invest in, the friendships that you propagate on campus, will pay off,” she pointed out.

Ms. Jarrett also highlighted the importance of the alumni groups.

“The old farmers here can tell you what a wonderful community we have as old farmers out there. We can call on just about anyone for assistance,” she said.
