Dressed sharply in white, Bugle made a deliberate, almost ceremonial entrance on stage–signalling from the outset that he was there to deliver more than just a set.
For more than 30 minutes, the surprise guest at Digicel’s 25th anniversary concert transformed the Kingston waterfront outside the telecoms giant’s corporate headquarters into his personal showcase on Saturday night.
The My Life singer proved fluid and unpredictable on stage, effortlessly shifting moods and styles as he connected with the audience.
“Music a we education. It taught me so much and brought me through my everyday life and took me to some places I had never been before,” Bugle said.
” No matter wey me a go through, music is always with me, so I’m sharing songs that give me strength and energy whenever I need it,” he said.
He moved through a catalogue that included Journeys, Survivor, Nuh Compatible, and Anointed, before loosening up his usually intense delivery. Joined by his female backing vocalist, Bugle surprised fans by stepping into a playful segment of whining that instantly electrified the front rows.
The set then took an unexpected turn as he slipped into a rendition inspired by Bounty Killer’s classic Look into My Eyes, before transitioning into What We Gonna Do, leaving the audience fully engaged and reluctant to let him exit the stage.
Meanwhile, livewire Valiant delivered a high-energy performance that matched the mood of the evening, with fans surging toward the front of the stage and reacting wildly to his every move. His set included Real Life, Expensive, Love Problem, and Baddiedeh, each met with loud approval and phone lights raised in the air.
From the VIP area, Digicel Jamaica CEO Stephen Murad took in the milestone celebration, describing the night as a culmination of 25 years of reshaping communications in Jamaica.
“I couldn’t be prouder of the thousands of workers and teams we’ve had working all those years,” he said. “What a success story it is, as we were able to revolutionise the telecoms industry here in Jamaica.”
The night wrapped in fitting fashion as Digicel executives led a cake-cutting ceremony marking the milestone, before fireworks lit up the Kingston waterfront sky, closing the celebration.
