After years of managing high-pressure international tours for top reggae and dancehall acts, tour manager Fredrick Ellis is turning his attention to mentorship and artiste development, with a mission to help guide the next generation of talent.
“Talent alone isn’t enough,” Ellis said. “Young artistes need guidance, structure, and someone to help them understand the business.”
Raised in Seaview Gardens, Ellis’ journey into the music industry began far from the spotlight. His first major break came while working in construction and assisting with the building of a studio for veteran producer Donovan Germain, where he was exposed to the business side of music. Ellis went on to work alongside major acts including Buju Banton and Dexta Daps, gaining valuable experience managing large-scale international tours.
Working with Buju Banton, Ellis said, sharpened his professionalism and attention to detail.
“At that level, everything has to be precise,” he explained. “You’re dealing with big audiences, tight schedules, and high expectations.”
His responsibilities included coordinating travel, accommodation, security, sound checks, and show execution under intense pressure.
