Grammy-winning reggae artiste Koffee is ramping up anticipation for her next album with the release of ‘Ova So’, the latest single from the highly anticipated project.
The song was officially launched last Friday, at Wickie Wackie Beach in Bull Bay, St Andrew. The event attracted fans, industry players, emerging artistes and well-wishers, who turned out to celebrate the latest offering from the Jamaican superstar.
The launch gave attendees an early feel of Ova So while offering insight into the musical direction Koffee is taking as she prepares to release her next body of work.
Koffee had previously announced plans to release four singles before dropping the 15-track album. That rollout has since been extended, with the artiste confirming that six singles will now be released as part of the campaign.
“Actually, we said it was four but we’re going up to six. So, four of those singles have been released so far with Ova So freshly being out. So, of course, you have Koffee, Rapid Fyah, Summer Fruits and Oversought makes it four so far.”
With Ova So now available, two more singles are left to complete the rollout. One of them is expected to be released on the same day as the album. Koffee also revealed that both remaining songs will be collaborations, but she is not yet disclosing who will join her on the tracks.
“Just look out for them,” she teased with a laugh when pressed for details.
The album’s release has also been delayed slightly from its initially anticipated November arrival. According to Koffee, the adjustment is designed to give each single more promotional attention and allow the songs to build greater momentum ahead of the album’s release.
“We’re pushing back just a little bit more just so that we can put a little bit more promo into each song because we think that it’s been doing well, and we just need to put a little bit more work in it, and work between them so that when the album drops, we really can have that bang,” she said.
Although listeners will have to wait a little longer for the complete project, Koffee says the album will offer a renewed sound while remaining rooted in the influences that have shaped her career.
“Definitely a refreshing vibe from original Koffee,” she said, explaining that reggae and dancehall remain central to her music while she continues to incorporate influences gathered from different parts of the world.
“I always put my little fusion on reggae and dancehall and just use the music I grew up on and mix it with the music that I’ve grown to like across the world and globally,” she told THE STAR.
The project, therefore, is shaping up as an evolution of Koffee’s established sound rather than a complete departure, with the artiste continuing to experiment while drawing on reggae, dancehall and her broader musical influences.
Koffee is also maintaining her international presence, recently returning to London’s Notting Hill Carnival for her second appearance at the event.
“It was really good. The vibe is always up,” she said, noting that her performance took place on a day when many children were present. Their participation, she said, added another memorable dimension to the carnival experience.
With Ova So now out, Koffee’s attention is firmly fixed on the next stages of the album rollout.
