Basketball: Herbert score big wins over York Castle

ST JAMES, Jamaica — Herbert Morrison Technical scored big wins over York Castle High in their opening Inter Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Rural Area Zone B boys basketball games that were played in Montego Bay on Friday.

Herbert Morrison turned back York Castle 94-37 in the Under-16 game before their Under-19 team won by 90 points, 109-19.

The home team led 24-13 after the first quarter in the junior game; they were up 47-21 at halftime. They led 64-26 going into the final quarter.

Shamar Russell led all scorers in the game with 37 points. He also had 13 rebounds and four steals while his teammates Antonio Kerr and Michael Johnson both scored 10 points each.

Marcodean Frater scored 13 points to lead York Castle with Kelaughn Grant scoring 12.

Meanwhile, Joshua Ferguson just missed a triple-double with 21 points, 10 steals and nine assists for Herbert Morrison in the Under-19 game where they led 31-0 after the first quarter, 54-4 at halftime and were ahead 84-11 after the third quarter.

Kyla Palmer led all scorers with 28 points and nine rebounds while Ryan Jurdine also scored 20 points for the winners.

Christian Andorn scored seven points and had six rebounds for York Castle.
