The Education Transformation Oversight Committee (ETOC) is reporting that development of the Tertiary Education Management Information System (TEMIS) is complete.

The TEMIS is programmed to track all aspects of data related to tertiary institutions.

These include enrolment and dropout data, tracer studies after graduation, as well as allocations to institutions, scholarships and grants awarded.

Addressing Thursday’s (March 26) ETOC Press Conference, held at Shortwood Teachers’ College in Kingston, Transforming Education for National Development (TREND) Project Lead, Dr.

Venesse Morrison-Leon, also advised that the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) of Jamaica is fully operational.

“All structures are in place to implement the NQF. As it relates to the Jamaica Credit Accumulation and Transfer Scheme, we are 50 per cent under way with that and the micro-credentialing framework aligned to the National Qualifications Framework is fully developed and being implemented,” Dr. Morrison-Leon said.

One of the 365 recommendations contained in the Jamaica Education Transformation Commission (JETC) report calls for enhanced use of online platforms in colleges across the island.

“We are happy to report that all our colleges have online learning platforms in place,” she informed.

Turning to the primary level, Dr. Morrison-Leon shared that a curriculum review of grades one to three is being undertaken.

“We are 30 per cent complete with the activity and we’re looking at integrated studies to identify the level of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics], ICT (information and communications technology) and life skills content that is included in the curriculum,” she said.
