Defending champion Kingston College suffered their first defeat of the season, crashing 0-1 to Hydel High, as the ISSA Wata Manning Cup second round kicked off on Wednesday.

In the meantime, Charlie Smith High stunned St George’s College 4-2 in the other encounter at Stadium East.

In the feature match, Hydel repelled the onslaught of KC and squeezed out a 1-0 win courtesy of an Abraham Joseph goal. The victory moved the St Catherine-based side to three points, the same as Calabar High atop Group 2, but behind the latter on goal difference after the Red Hills Road-based former champions whipped Campion College 4-1.

In Group 3 at Winchester Park, the visiting Charlie Smith beat St George’s College 4-2 to jump to the top of the standings as St Catherine High and Vauxhall High played to a 0-0 draw and settled for a point each.

One of the favourites, Excelsior High showed that they will be a force to be reckoned with by thrashing Wolmer’s Boys 3-0, taking charge of Group 1 on goal difference ahead of St Andrew Technical High (STATHS) which clipped Tivoli Gardens High 1-0.

Mona High took charge of Group 4 after beating St Jago High 4-1 while Jamaica College were held to a 2-2 draw by Eltham High. Mona are on top with three points, two ahead of both Jamaica College and Eltham High on a point each.
