LEICESTER, England (CMC):
Leicester City will not be pursuing a deal for veteran striker Michail Antonio after a training injury ended his trial with the Championship club.
Foxes boss Marti Cifuentes confirmed the news, stating the latest setback made a move for the 35-year-old ‘unfeasible’.
Antonio, the former West Ham and Jamaica international, had been training with Leicester since December as part of his recovery from a severe car crash that left his femur broken in four places.
“It’s a pity,” Cifuentes told BBC Radio Leicester. “Michail got a setback in the training.
“It’s a small injury. That probably means that we will not be able to continue the process we started.”
With the January transfer window open, Cifuentes confirmed the club’s search for attacking reinforcements continues. “The window is open. We’re going to try to see what other options are available,” he said.
The decision leaves Antonio’s comeback path uncertain, while Leicester will now look elsewhere to bolster their forward line.
Antonio was not among the 24-man squad named for the Reggae Boyz friendly international clash against Grenada on January 18.
