Solomon Sharpe, executive chairman of Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment, has announced plans to elevate the rich Mouttet Mile into a two-day racing extravaganza next year, following Rideallday’s thrilling victory on Saturday, December 6, 2025.
The Mouttet Mile carried a purse of US$300,000 ($45 million), making it the richest single race in the English-speaking Caribbean. Rideallday, trained by Philip Feanny and ridden by Javier Castellano, won the Graded Stakes contest over one mile (1,600m) by 9 lengths in 1:36.4.
“We are going to have two days of racing next year. We are going to have a Mouttet Mile weekend,” Sharpe said, signalling a major boost for Jamaica’s racing calendar.
“We set a plan to make this day exciting. We set a plan that we would go and get some horses and get some new ownership. The owners of Rideallday, the ladies, are a bit tentative, they took a while to seal the deal. They had to pay a premium, they paid the premium and they got their money back today. No regrets selling Rideallday as that was always the plan.
Sharpe is leveraging decades of North American experience to revolutionise Jamaica’s system.
“We went up and we bought the horses, before we came back with the nine horses, one was sold and then we sold four horses and we kept Rideallday. You have to know the system. I have been studying it for a very long time; it is the North American system, and we are trying to make sure that we revolutionise the system in Jamaica,” Sharpe told the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.
“We brought the horse, we got here, we got him winning, everybody wants a winner, and so we knew once we positioned him in a certain manner, he would sell for a big price. Then we always thought that he was the horse for the Mouttet Mile when we brought him,” Sharpe added.
A December 2024 setback preceded Philip Feanny’s careful June prep.
“In December he had a minor setback and lost by a nose but sometimes when these things happen, it happens for a reason. The maestro Philip Feanny put him down and brought him back in June and steadily prepared him. We weren’t worried about exercise and fast times because we had one assignment in hand, the Mouttet Mile and we did everything seemingly right and we got the results for the new owners,” Sharpe noted.
“The crowd was awesome. We did say we were bringing back the 70s and a lot of people used to complain that we don’t have the crowd that used to be here in the 70s and 80s. But remember now, we have a lot of digital distributions and a lot more distractions that are happening on a Saturday.
“We said that we are going back to the 70s, but we did a lot of hardcore marketing and promotions for this to bring back this big crowd and to do it for Jamaica. This was live on Fox Sports; millions of people are seeing this. We brought down Javier Castellano and immediately, once Castellano was signed, you got articles in six overseas magazines and then Fox Sports ramped up their coverage because of Castellano.
“This whole thing is not about one horse winning, this is about Jamaican racing winning, this about Jamaica winning, and so this is just bigger than Ridallday,” Sharpe ended.
