Kingston-born comedian and content creator Phillip Wright, popularly known online as AbleBoss, has carved out a powerful space in Jamaica’s digital entertainment scene, through persistence, creativity, and an unwavering belief in his craft.

Before the laughs and viral moments, he worked as a security officer at Guardsman Limited. While on the job in 2019, he began experimenting with content creation, using his natural humour and editing skills to produce short comedic videos aimed at brightening people’s days.

“I’m naturally jovial and hilarious,” Wright said. “I just wanted to put smiles on people’s faces, especially people who might be having a bad day.”

Like many creators, the early days were challenging. Some social media users criticised his content, calling it boring. At times, he felt like giving up, but he pushed forward, constantly refining his ideas and editing style. His breakthrough came with a concept called the Mixup Challenge Quiz, a comedic segment that quickly went viral and propelled him into the spotlight. The success brought massive growth in followers, brand promotions, and bookings across the entertainment industry.

As demand for his content grew, he made the bold decision to leave his security job and focus fully on his comedy career. The move paid off. In 2021, he gained further exposure after being selected for the reality television show 876 Roommates. Since then, Wright has built a strong presence across multiple social media platforms, collaborating with businesses, artistes and producers while travelling internationally for entertainment and content creation work. His performances have taken him to countries including the Dominican Republic, Mexico, The Bahamas and the US.

Known for his unique and unpredictable skits, Wright also incorporates artificial intelligence tools to create multiple characters and cinematic-style edits, allowing his content to feel like mini movies. Despite the success, the busy schedule can be overwhelming.

“It stresses me out sometimes because the promotions are a lot,” he admitted. “But it’s a good stress.”

Looking ahead, Wright said he hopes to expand his brand globally, with a major goal of starring in a hit international movie.
