During her last interview with THE STAR a few weeks ago, dancehall artiste Queenie was in tears as she expressed her disappointment in the low sales of her EP ‘Reign’.
Yesterday, Queenie was crying again but, this time, her tears were joyful ones, complemented with a ‘queen wave’. Her song Tight Tight has gone viral on TikTok and has found its way on the lips of dancehall lovers. This, she said, is nothing short of a miracle.
“Mi heart melt a million times and it just show how amazing God is. Father God himself work a miracle. People just love it and nobody can’t stop it again. Is a Grammy mi a go fa,” she said. The song is about female sexual empowerment and physical intimacy.
Tight Tight is the first track that Queenie said was recorded on her EP. While visuals were done for the other tracks, the music video Tight Tight was delayed. But this, she said, was a blessing in disguise.
“For some reason, God make Tight Tight delay because mi husband Dewy did have to endorse it. When Dewy reach out, him do a dance and a gwan with himself and the song just start trend over TikTok. People a post mi song when dem deh a church, gym, cuss, eat and more. It just shows the power with me the queen and the song just have the nation on a good vibration,” she said.
According to Queenie, she is amazed at the level of creativity that is placed into the videos uploaded by her fans.
“Mi deserve it, eno, because is a lot of work mi put in it. I am amazed at the effort weh the people dem put in to make them own video to the song. Dem even a use AI. Mi cry, eno, when mi live fi see fada God and Queenie powers. God did haffi give me one hit out of the seven songs man,” she said.
Queenie and her husband Dewy, whose given name is Duwayne Scarlett, reconciled earlier this year after a public separation and divorce filing. She however stated that their reconciliation was what helped to boost the song.
“The trust and faith weh mi have inna mi marriage make God pilot back mi husband to mi, and the song weh him pick and dance to go viral, and that alone show how we love and powers strong,” Queenie said.
