… Chairman’s Plate win a redemption after Gold Cup disappointment
After finishing down the track in the Gold Cup on October 4, 2025, the Gary Subratie-conditioned Blue Vinyl returned to conquer the US$40,000 Chairman’s Plate on Saturday, December 6.
The six-year-old chestnut horse, ridden by Raddesh Roman, won the Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over 9 furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m) by 4 lengths. Bred by Bern Identity out of Blufield, Blue Vinyl stopped the clock in 1:57.2.
“The Gold Cup was just a race where we were trying to keep him fit. He won an Overnight Allowance race a few months ago, so he came into this race with a good intention,” Subratie told the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.
“He [Blue Vinyl) was training, which we couldn’t do before, I was pleased with him. Raddesh [Roman] rode him perfectly, he did an excellent job on him, I didn’t give him any instructions, I just told him to ride his race. It was a good performance,” Subratie added.
Sitting in mid-pack early, Blue Vinyl patiently waited as I Dream Again (Robert Halledeen) and
Unruly Mo (Dick Cardenas) battled for the lead around the clubhouse turn and onto the main track.
Neo Star (Emisael Jaramillo) and Run Julie Run (Javier Castellano) got into the mix down the backstretch as Blue Vinyl began his steady climb, gaining ground with every stride.
Navigating the half-mile turn, Blue Vinyl turned into a force, rounding horses with menace. Approaching the distance, he devoured the field, hitting the front in deep stretch full of running. Momentum carried him to an easy win over Sheer Delight (Christopher Mamdeen) and Provident (Tevin Foster).
