The Wray & Nephew Jamaica Premier League, which has been inactive since last month, will return on December 7.
The league was put on hold on October 23 due to Hurricane Melissa which severely impacted sections of the island.
Jamaica Observer understands that a meeting with all 14 clubs, the Professional Football Jamaica Limited (PFJL) Executive and the Jamaica Football Federation was held on Tuesday to finalise the decision.
It’s further understood that the sponsors also gave the go ahead for the league’s resumption.
In a statement on Tuesday, PFJL CEO Owen Hill said, “Our clubs have endured tremendous hardship following Hurricane Melissa, but the spirit of Jamaican football remains unbroken”.
JFF Competitions Chairman Gregory Daley said, “Football will play a critical role in the healing and rebuilding of our communities.”
Montego Bay United of St James and Treasure Beach FC of St Elizabeth were the two clubs most affected by the Category 5 hurricane with damage to club infrastructure as well as players and staff seeing major loss of property.
Nine match weeks have been played so far in the JPL with Mobay leading the standings on 22 points.
