Jamaicans seeking financial assistance to pursue studies and professional development in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and other digital-related fields have until Friday, July 17, to apply for grants under the Universal Service Fund (USF) ICT Education Grant Programme.
The initiative, which has a total allocation of $3.1 million, will provide funding to 12 Jamaicans through two grant categories designed to support educational advancement and help build a digitally skilled workforce.
Marketing and Public Relations Manager at the USF, Dana DeCordova Denton, said the programme reflects the organisation’s commitment to developing the human capital needed to support Jamaica’s digital transformation.
“This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are committed to advancing their education and contributing to Jamaica’s digital future, so applicants should present their strongest possible application,” she told JIS News.
The USF Emerging Digital Leaders Grant, valued at $300,000, will be awarded to seven young Jamaicans between the ages of 17 and 28 who demonstrate academic potential, leadership qualities, community involvement and a passion for advancing Jamaica’s digital future.
Meanwhile, five applicants will receive the USF Digital Advancement and Professional Development Grant, valued at $200,000 each.
This category targets Jamaican nationals between the ages of 30 and 40 who have already attained at least an associate degree or Diploma and are pursuing undergraduate studies to further their professional development.
“Over time, this investment in human capital will help address critical ICT skills gaps, foster greater productivity, and contribute to Jamaica’s competitiveness as a digitally enabled economy,” Mrs. DeCordova Denton told JIS News.
Application forms must be submitted along with the required supporting documents for consideration.
“Prospective applicants are encouraged to review the eligibility criteria carefully, ensure all required documents are submitted before the deadline, and complete their applications accurately,” she said.
Application forms, eligibility requirements and programme guidelines are available on the USF’s website at www.usf.gov.jm.
Mrs. DeCordova Denton noted that the programme complements USF’s wider digital-inclusion initiatives.
These include the expansion of Community and Public Wi-Fi, support for schools through digital technology, and programmes aimed at improving digital literacy and educational access.
