Over the years, a good rhythm has been one of the key components an artiste needs to ride the wave of popularity and take their song to the next level.

Currently, one of the more popular rhythms making waves both locally and internationally is the ‘Diff-er-ent’ rhythm created by 2Cuz Productions. It has been gaining much traction and interest as not only has Busy Signal done a song on it, but also Capleton, and the Fireman’s song, My Shine, has now hit the Amazon USA Reggae singles chart.

The producer 2Cuz, who is Busy Signal’s cousin, told THE STAR that the rhythm was initially inspired by his love for soul music.

“I was excited to fuse reggae from my core Jamaican culture with soul music. Artistes such as Patti LaBelle, Marvin Gaye, Teddy Pendergrass, and many others have influenced me over the years. When I contacted Jevaughn Jones and expressed my idea, we both started working on it and the process was amazing. After the riddim was created and I started sending it to the artistes, the response was immediate. They were excited to hear something that felt fresh, and they were also excited to bring their own creativity to it.” 2Cuz, whose given name is Gregory Gayle, expressed gratitude for all the artistes who have made the rhythm popular, as their usage is an endorsement of his musical vision.

2Cuz has been producing for some time, with a few other releases gaining traction in the Latin space, especially in Costa Rica. He said that he has been involved in music since he was young.

“As the son of a church choir director, I had to be in the children’s and youth choir singing. In my late teens and early 20s, I operated a sound system as a sound engineer and selector/DJ. However, my biggest influence came in 2015 when I joined my younger brother, Dameon Gayle. He is the CEO, sound engineer, musician, video director, and producer of Warriors Musick and Warrior Films. He’s behind major music projects and hits like Rasta Got Soul by Fantan [Mojah] on the ‘Think Twice’ riddim, Unfair Officer by Wasp, and Stay So by Busy Signal. He’s also produced many music videos, such as Bruk Off Yuh Back by Konshens and Real Youths by Vybz Kartel.”
