Veteran trainer Lawrence Feemantle celebrated a career milestone on Saturday, saddling his 300th winner on the 10-race programme.

Freemantle’s landmark came in the sixth race when his charge Phoenix Risen, ridden by Demar Williams, won the four-furlong (8000m) contest by a length and a half.

Finishing second was Heiroffire (Shane Richardson) and third was Basilicus (Raddesh Roman) in a time of 47.2 seconds.

The race was a three-year-old and upward Optional Claiming ($350,000-250,000) contest and included six-year-olds and upward (non-winners of three).

California Crown, trained by Jason DaCosta and ridden by Robert Halledeen, won the $1.25 million Kaz HoShay Trophy, an Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over seven furlongs.

The Anthony Nunes-trained Sir Don was an easy winner of the $2 million Mr Sensational Trophy, a Graded Stakes contest for two-year-olds over seven furlongs. Sir Don was winning for the third time from as many starts. Raddesh Roman was the rider.

Racing continues on Saturday and features the US$300,000 Mouttet Mile.
