The entertainer is inviting listeners into one of his most personal chapters yet. The single explores heartbreak, reflection and personal growth, delivering a message about letting go of past pain and embracing healing. Through heartfelt lyrics and an emotionally charged performance, Trimma captures the reality of moving beyond difficult experiences while finding strength in the lessons they leave behind.
“Past Life stems from personal experience and pain,” Trimma shared. “It’s about trying to overcome difficult moments, even when things don’t change the way you want them to or as quickly as you’d hope. Healing takes time, and I think that’s something more people can relate to. I wanted to create a song that reminds people they’re not alone in that journey.”
Accompanying the single is a cinematic music video that further brings the song’s message to life. The visual was produced by North West Family UK, with cinematography by Carlin Peton, directed and edited by Tasheika Davidson, and creatively directed by Davina B.
The release marks another step towards Trimma’s upcoming six-track EP, a project he says will showcase a more mature, authentic side of his artistry.
“Every song I’m releasing before the EP has a purpose,” he explained. “I want people to hear music that connects emotionally and leaves them with something positive.”
Born Kenyato Johnson in Pennants district, Clarendon, Trimma has steadily built a name for himself as an international reggae and dancehall recording artiste, producer and songwriter. Balancing music with a successful career as a barber, he has spent years developing his sound while earning recognition both locally and overseas. His musical journey began way before high school,and, after graduating from fifth form, Trimma established himself as a skilled barber while developing his craft as an artiste.
His catalogue includes fan favourites such as Why Do I Fall in Love and Jah Cover Me, released through Krime Music Group and receiving consistent airplay in London and other international markets. Trimma has also performed extensively across Europe, including Belgium, Scotland and Zurich, Switzerland. One memorable career highlight came when reggae star I-Octane called him back on stage during a performance for an impromptu song-for-song exchange. He also gained significant attention with the viral track Monsta, released alongside his cousin Adrian Carruthers of Krime Music Group.
