Carlton Watson is on the brink of making history at Caymanas Park. The seasoned racehorse owner is currently tied with Cecil Charlton’s record of 43 winners in a single year, a feat achieved way back in 1977.

Watson drew level with Charlton on December 20, 2025, when his charge Hit N Run, ridden by Tevin Foster, took the first race. The contest was the three-year-old and upward Optional Claiming ($500,000-$400,000) race that included six-year-olds and upward (non-winners of four) and native-bred five-year-old (non-winners three) over 7½ furlongs (1,500m).

But Watson’s pursuit of the record hasn’t been without its near misses. In the fourth race that same day, his horse Prince Amaan, ridden by Robert Halledeen, narrowly lost out to Warsaw in a thrilling finish.

And if that wasn’t enough, on December 21, two of Watson’s horses, Undisclosdlocation and Brenda Boy, both ridden by Halledeen, finished second in their respective races.

Despite these close calls, the racing world is abuzz with anticipation. If he breaks the record, it’ll be a remarkable achievement, cementing his position as one of the top owners in Caymanas Park’s history.
