APPRENTICE jockey Tajay Suckoo is poised to make a highly anticipated return to competitive action tomorrow, following a prolonged absence due to injury.
Suckoo’s setback occurred in May during a morning workout when his mount, a two-year-old, became spooked by another horse on the track, causing a nasty fall.
Despite the painful experience Suckoo remains stoic, acknowledging the risks jockeys face.
“Yes, it was painful, very painful. The pain eased somewhat after treatment and painkillers. As jockeys we know these things can happen, and we just have to deal with them,” he said.
After being cleared for exercise riding last week Suckoo has now received the green light to compete. He has three mounts scheduled for tomorrow: Noble Sovereign (Donovan Clarke) in the third, Oil Machine (Phillip Elliott) in the eighth, and
Uncaptured Empress (Anthony Nunes) in the ninth.
