After turning heads with his breakout single ‘Greedy’, dancehall newcomer Tielo Lanez is looking to prove his debut hit was no fluke.
The entertainer recently released his debut EP, titled Rebellion, a project produced in collaboration with DJ Mac, which he believes will introduce listeners to the many sides of his artistry. While many artistes build projects around a single sound, Tielo Lanez said he intentionally took a different approach, using the EP as an opportunity to push his creative boundaries.
“I have experimented on a few different sounds throughout the EP, mainly to see which one people gravitate to more,” he said.
The decision wasn’t random, as the entertainer outlined that he has always approached songwriting with a bigger picture in mind.
“I somewhat write as if I’m creating an album each time I create a record. I had so many unreleased tracks that I knew pretty early out that a compilation was inevitable,” he said.
According to the artiste, Rebellion explores different musical directions with at least one track that will surprise listeners because of its novel sound. The project also features fellow entertainers Krytical and Ayetian, the only guest appearances on the EP.
Beyond experimenting with sound, Tielo Lanez said that the project helped him better understand himself as an artiste.
“A lesson that stood out to me while putting this EP together is that I’m a jack of all trades when it comes to creating different types of music. I always want to experiment on something new, and I believe I should slow it down for a while,” he said.
He insisted that the EP wasn’t made to follow what’s popular.
“This project distinguishes itself and me with its sound and energy behind each record. No trends were followed, just music for the soul and pure creativity.” For the emerging entertainer, the EP is also about changing perceptions.
“What I want the audience to understand about Tielo Lanez is that he is more than capable of dominating different styles of music and is ready to make a name for himself,” he said.
With music videos already in the pipeline, live performances being lined up and an album also part of the long-term plan, Tielo Lanez is hoping the project delivers what every rising artiste is chasing — a hit that will make him a household name.
