Entertainer and social media personality Pops YG was in the middle of a livestream when armed police officers stormed his Trelawny home and arrested him early Monday.
Pops YG, whose real name is Ansel Fairclough, is being held on reasonable suspicion of breaches of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) (Special Provisions) Act, commonly known as the lottery scam law, his attorney Donnovan Collins confirmed.
Fairclough was arrested at his home in Holland Estate, Trelawny, while he was in the company of several other men.
Video of the operation shows police, with guns drawn, entering the premises and shouting, “Hands up p@##@!”
Fairclough appeared caught off guard by the sudden police action.
“Father, a wha a happen? Jus mek we know a wha a happen?” he could be heard asking.
He then appeared to explain that they were simply conducting a livestream.
“We nah do nutten illegal or nutten…we just a gwaan do we live,” Fairclough said.
One of the officers appeared surprised by the livestream.
“Weh you live deh?” the cop asked.
Fairclough responded, after which the policeman muttered, “B@() Live a gwaan an u nuh mek we know.”**
Despite the arrest, no charges had been laid against Fairclough up to midday Monday, Collins said.
“They are still doing some investigations,” Collins told The Gleaner.
The attorney said the Bail Act allows police 48 hours to either charge Fairclough or release him.
Collins said he expects the police to comply with the legislation.
